Academics
Academics
Strong foundations. Curious minds. Character that lasts.
Lovia's educational approach brings knowledge, confidence, curiosity and character together, so that what a child learns also shapes how they think, work and treat others.
Our Direction
Learning With Purpose
Academic development is not simply the accumulation of facts. A child who can recall an answer has not necessarily understood the idea behind it, and understanding is what makes learning usable later.
Lovia's educational direction therefore holds several things together at once, rather than treating them as separate priorities to be balanced against each other.
- Strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics
- Critical thinking and careful reasoning
- Creativity and expression
- Problem-solving and investigation
- Responsible application of knowledge
- Character alongside academic learning

Foundations
Strong Foundations for Going Further
These are the areas of learning Lovia's educational framework is built around. Each one supports the others.
- 01
English & Literacy
Listening, speaking, reading and writing are treated as the tools a learner needs to reach every other subject.
- 02
Mathematics & Numeracy
Number sense, patterns, measurement and reasoning, used in situations that carry real meaning.
- 03
Science & Discovery
Observing, questioning, testing and explaining — science approached as a habit of mind.
- 04
Technology & Digital Learning
Capable, safe and purposeful use of digital tools as part of learning rather than apart from it.
- 05
Ghana, Society & the Wider World
Ghanaian identity, community and responsibility, connected with awareness of the wider world.
- 06
Creativity & Expression
Writing, art, design and making, so that understanding can be expressed and not only recalled.
The Lovia Learning Pathway
Nursery to Senior High, One Continuous Journey
Each stage has a clear purpose, and each one prepares a learner for the next. This is the shape of a Lovia education from the first days of school through to Senior High.
- 01
Nursery / Pre-K
Foundation through language, play, movement, curiosity, relationships and early independence.
- 02
Kindergarten
Growing early literacy, numeracy, communication, discovery and confidence.
- 03
Lower Primary
Building strong foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, inquiry and learning habits.
- 04
Upper Primary
Deepening knowledge, reasoning, problem-solving, creativity and increasing independence.
- 05
Junior High
Developing stronger subject understanding, critical thinking, communication, digital awareness and responsibility.
- 06
Senior High
Preparing learners for increasingly focused study, responsible independence and future pathways.
The pathway is read as one journey rather than a set of separate schools. What a learner builds early — language, curiosity, habits of work and confidence — is what later study is built upon.
English & Literacy
English Opens Doors to Learning.
Almost every subject is reached through language. A learner who reads with confidence can follow an explanation in science, understand a mathematics problem, and put their own thinking into words. A learner who is still struggling with English carries that difficulty into every other lesson.
For that reason English and literacy sit at the centre of Lovia's academic approach rather than beside it, and the pathway is deliberately sequenced from spoken language through to written expression.
- 01
Listen
Hearing English clearly and confidently.
- 02
Speak
Using spoken language without fear of mistakes.
- 03
Phonics
Connecting sounds to letters and patterns.
- 04
Read
Decoding first, then reading with fluency.
- 05
Vocabulary
Words that unlock every other subject.
- 06
Understand
Meaning, inference and comprehension.
- 07
Write
Expressing thought clearly in writing.
Learners do not all arrive at the same point. Some are ready to read independently; others are still building confidence in listening and speaking. Lovia's approach recognises this and aims to give each learner work that matches where they are genuinely ready to begin, rather than where a label says they should be.
Start where you are. Keep going further.
Mathematics
Numbers, Patterns and Problem-Solving
Mathematics at Lovia is about numeracy and reasoning together. Learners work with number, patterns, shape and measurement, and are asked to explain how they reached an answer as well as what the answer is.
Problems are set in situations that carry meaning, so that mathematics is understood as a way of thinking about the world rather than a set of procedures to be repeated.
Science & STEM
Learn by Asking, Testing and Improving.
Science, technology, engineering and mathematics are an important direction in Lovia's educational approach. What matters most is not equipment but the habit of investigation: asking a question, trying something, and thinking again about the result.
Lovia's Learning World includes STEM learning pathways and curated resources that follow this same sequence of investigation.

- 01
Ask
Begin with a real question.
- 02
Predict
Say what you expect, and why.
- 03
Build / Test
Try the idea out in practice.
- 04
Observe
Look closely at what actually happened.
- 05
Explain
Put the reasoning into words.
- 06
Improve
Change something and try again.
Character
Character and Learning Belong Together.
How a child works is part of what a child learns. Academic development at Lovia is held alongside the qualities that make learning worth having.
Respect
Treating people, ideas and places with care.
Integrity
Honest work, honestly done.
Responsibility
Owning effort, choices and their effects.
Service
Using what you learn for others, not only yourself.
Courage
Attempting difficult things and continuing after mistakes.
Discipline
The steady habits that make progress possible.
Character. Courage. Service.
Ghana & the World
Rooted in Ghana. Prepared for the World.
Lovia's educational direction begins with Ghana: its history, its languages of learning, its communities and the responsibilities that come with belonging to them.
From that footing, learners are encouraged to look outward — to understand how ideas travel, how other places live and work, and how a young Ghanaian can take part in a wider world with confidence and without losing their own identity.
The Learner
Teach the Child in Front of Us.
Stage and grade labels give a school structure, and that structure matters. But a label describes a group, and learning happens in one child at a time.
What a learner already understands, what they are ready to practise next, and what support helps them move forward are the questions that shape good teaching. Recognising individual strengths — and honest areas for growth — is part of taking a child seriously.
Start where you are. Keep going further.
